Pruney fingers
If the nerve that leads to the fingers becomes damaged there is a rather strange upshot; the fingers no longer become pruney in water. What this means is that there is something in the body telling the fingers to go wrinkly, rather than the fingertips simply going wrinkly by the action of water on them. It has been muted that this is an evolutionary adaptation; that wrinkly fingers are better for swimming as they provide traction in water and perhaps those crinkly pinkies allow for a better grip to get oneself out of the water.
Interesting stuff, but this all rather stinks of anecdotal evidence, would anyone care to add to this rather interesting bit of hearsay?
